La Cigalo

So after seeing this café a few times on my way to PDO, I took a mental note to take a trip there.

It was a beautiful January morning and the weather was just too perfect. Cloudy sky, strong breezes. Not something you see in Muscat everyday! I couldn’t stay indoors and work, so I decided to visit the café during the lunch break and I dragged my colleagues, Tahra and Abdullah along with me.

La Cigalo has a vast seating area, indoors and outdoors (yay!). A friendly waitress welcomed us and we headed to sit outdoors. The menu has a wide variety of gourmet items to choose from.

Gamberetti

For starters we selected a Gamberetti (deep fried breaded shrimps topped with a pink colored spicy dip) served in a martini glass and a Fromage de Chevre (toasted warm goat cheese served with caramelized red cabbage, cherry tomatoes, grilled beetroot, arugula and walnut topped with glazed balsamic)

Yeah we couldn’t pronounce the names either so we just stuck to the descriptions under the menu items to help us out.

The sauce over the Gamberetti wasn’t very spicy yet it tasted good and the shrimps were well cooked, the Fromage de Chevre had an impressive presentation and it tasted even better. Only the starter portion sizes weren’t enough for the three of us.

Peach Ice Tea

Abdullah ordered a fresh peach ice tea which was absolutely amazing, one of the best I’ve tasted! Tahra took a Raspberry Mint Margarita which looked more like a pink slush and she sipped it slowly till the end of the meal -.-

Pizza Regina

Pictured is the medium size Regina pizza as main course which consisted of mozzarella cheese, smoked cheese, sliced beef, onion, bell pepper, potatoes, little cherry tomatoes and arugula leaves as toppings. Baked to perfection, this pizza had Tahra and me fighting for the last slice.

Italian Style Burger

Abdullah picked an Italian Style burger for himself, which had layers of soaked carrot, mushrooms, caponata bell pepper, herbed ricotta cheese dip, arugula leaves and sliced parmesan cheese on top of a superbly grilled chicken breast patty. It was served along with divinely crispy potato fries. Abdullah rated the burger as perfect and I believe his verdict as he did not speak a single word until he had finished the whole thing.

The service was excellent and our waitress was extremely patient, yet alert as we took ages to decide on a dessert. Finally we chose just two macaroons; Chocolate and Passion Fruit which were exceptionally delish! Just the right amount of sweet to end our tasty meal.

Total billing for two starters, two main courses, two drinks, three macaroons and a small bottled water: OMR 25.700 (we ordered only two macaroons but we were billed for three. I did not notice this on the bill until the next day!)
