It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I had five gorgeous ladies accompanying me to More Café – Ashwini, Rachita, Zeba, Binoodha and Malvika. I must say, The Walk at The Wave Muscat is a beautiful place to visit. This was our little Orange County in Muscat.
With a purple and white theme all over, mOre Café has a very classy ambience. Photographs and stunning paintings adorned the walls neatly. The café has an incredible concept that allows creative talents to exhibit their work of art on their walls. Get in touch with them if you want to display something beautiful at their bistro!
A pricey menu kept us occupied for 20 minutes on what to order. More Café offers mixed cuisines and knowing their portions were quite large, we decided to skip the starters.
Our main course comprised of Asian Beef Stir Fry, Pasta Basta, Beef Lasagne, the MORE burger (Chicken), Italian Tonnarelli Bolognese and a Green Thai Chicken Curry. So much food, it was a fiesta!
The mOre Burger picked by Ashwini had a very impressive presentation. It was served on a 4 level stand with the gigantic burger resting on the top like a king and a selection of different condiments on the bottom stands. Basically you have to build your own burger with your choice of condiments. I had to watch Ashwini construct this massive meal and eat it by herself!
An oversized chicken patty (almost an inch think, WOW) topped with melted cheese sat on a con rye bread. Condiments included pickles, mango chutney, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and carrots. I had a bite (a difficult one) of the enormous burger, the chicken was delightful and the strong taste of the mango chutney made it all the more better.
On the contrary, Ashwini had a very hard time eating the burger because she had to break it into little pieces and that was just a sloppy mistake. She didn’t enjoy it at all; the mOre burger is a good choice only for people who can take good sized bites.
I was slightly disappointed when my Green Thai Curry arrived because it wasn’t green. Thankfully it tasted just like the original Green Thai Curry. The gravy with eggplant and baby corn pieces in it was delicately spiced and it had a rich coconuty flavor. A decent portion of lemongrass scented rice accompanied the curry. I expected the sticky jasmine rice but this worked well too.
Binoodha’s Beef Lasagne was rustic and homely. It had minced beef mixed with tomato and mornay sauce and a basil pesto dressing drizzled over the lasagna sheets. Binoodha liked it and I thought the pasta was very moist and delish. I could even taste the Parmesan in it. Yum.
Rachita had chosen Asian Beef Stir Fry which looked really beautiful. It consisted of thinly sliced beef stir fried with crispy vegetables, chilli, sweet soy sauce and egg noodles. Taste wise, I thought it was very dry and it could have done well with some more spice or sauce. Rachita had a similar verdict though she finished off everything on her plate.
Pasta Basta was selected by Malvika. This one was my favourite. Penne with mushrooms and chicken cooked in a beautifully flavoured tomato and pesto sauce and parmesan cheese sprinkled over the gorgeous presentation. The sauce was very creamy and full of taste. Malvika loved her dish but she couldn’t finish the entire serving.
Zeba ordered an Italian Tonnarelli Bolognese but she substituted the meat sauce with chicken. It came with a slice of brown bread and a side salad. The pasta took Zeba down the memory lane because it was very similar to the one her Omani neighbours used to cook during her childhood; really delicious and the sauce cooked well. I’m sure they didn’t give her such big servings though because she couldn’t finish her portion here.
For drinks, we had the complimentary water served to us. Ashwini chose a carrot juice and Malvika took her favourite lemon and mint juice. Both were really good and fresh according to them.
Binoodha had ordered a Strawberry Pancake too but that never arrived. When enquired, the waiter did not seem to remember that order and said it would take another 45 minutes for it. We bailed on the pancakes and requested for the check. Most of us hadn’t finished our dishes because of its large portions and clearly we had no room for dessert.
The service was okay, some of the dishes were good and some tasted very regular. Despite this, the food at More Café is good enough to warrant a visit.
