Rossini is a slick operation run by the Four Seasons Oman group. They also manage O Sole Mio, one of my favourite Italian restaurants in Muscat and so I was really excited to try this new fine dining heaven!
The restaurant is located at the Cave Complex and the first thing that catches the eye when you enter Rossini is the spectacular décor highlighting the Italian architecture. The place was also larger than what I had expected. Big tables, well spaced and covered with crisply ironed white tablecloths.
Rossini has a private VIP dining hall furnished lavishly, a bar with a wooden counter and bar stools running parallel, a spacious lounge seating in front of the bar and a cigar lounge. Cigar lovers, you can try out some of the best Cuban cigars which are available here!
Since it is the holy month of Ramadan, the restaurant was not serving alcohol. But I’ve heard they have got a pretty impressive collection of wines.
Currently they have two set menus for Iftar priced at OMR 11.000 and OMR 8.500. My dining companion was Ashwini, whom I really enjoy eating out with and we each decided to try different menus.
Rahul was serving us tonight and he was very friendly and informative. The meal began with dates, fresh juice and bread. Btw Rossini produces the very best bread and pasta from scratch!
Next we were served soups– mushroom for me and tomato for Ash. They arrived in little cups which was just perfect for our grand meal ahead. My soup was warm, creamy and delicious. Ash found the tomato soup great as well.
To the pasta, Tagliolini Veal Ragu for Ashwini and penne with white sauce and chicken for me. The penne was really interesting. The sauce was creamy, tasty and not at all overwhelming. Ash got a generous portion of warm tagliolini tossed with veal, mushrooms and red sauce. It was tangy and delish!
The risottos were next! Risotto Porcini Mushroom was cooked beautifully, the rice was al dente and the mushrooms added a lovely richness to the dish. The spinach risotto was under seasoned and overcooked to the point where the rice was soft. I still ate it, haha.
After this we were served lemon sorbet to clear our palate. The fruited ice was very fresh, delicious and summery! I loved the orange zest topping.
We were so full at this point but the best part of the meal had just arrived – our mains! Ashwini was served grilled tender chicken with spicy red sauce sided with roast potatoes and cherry tomatoess in a Parmesan basket! I had made up my mind to steal that basket LOL
The spicy sauce was amazing. This dish was a Ramadan special and I requested them to consider adding it to their al la carte menu. I absolutely loved it!
The mixed grill was cooked medium well. The lamb chop and beef strips were best loved and the chicken was delicious too, I borrowed Ash’s spicy sauce for my chicken. The salad and fries were good.
To desserts, the blueberry cheesecake was lovely but nothing extraordinary. The Omani Date Cake was a perfect ending to our meal. It was moist and became a little sweet on the palate after a while, but overall it was a really enjoyable dessert. Another dish not present in the menu. Rossini management, please add it! :D
Service was impeccable; Rahul and the other staff were amiable and attentive and the pace of the meal was steady.
I was very impressed with the meal tonight. The standard of cooking was accomplished and refined. Another plus point was that the Iftar menus were very reasonably priced, making it a decent value for money. The restaurant definitely gets a big tick from me. I would highly recommend Rossini to anyone visiting the Cave Complex.
